Llandeilo’s Escape from Clone Town Syndrome

Sainsbury’s withdrew their application for a store outside Llandeilo last week, but those of us who opposed the plan can’t just sit back and relax. We need to develop an alternative vision for the town, a vision that will keep money circulating locally, that will lead to fulfilling jobs, that will provide opportunities for local businesses. The national gathering ‘Independence Day 2012’ in Frome, Somerset, was a good start to the next stage of our quest:

Uniformity is dull. Clone towns are dull. One supermarket is much like another. But Llandeilo now has the opportunity to continue developing in its own idiosyncratic way as a unique, historic and sociable town.
